Club Members Youth Group

The Youth Group meets at 10am and 2pm on Sundays throughout the season. The group is aimed at introducing young people to the fun of dinghy racing and many youth group members also sail on a Sunday morning with the Club race.

To join Youth Group the young person must have obtained Stage 3 in the RYA Youth Training Scheme and must be a member of the Club. The Youth Group is run by volunteers, and parents (who are required to stay on site throughout the session) are encouraged to join in running the sessions. The Club will provide training and the relevant CRB checks for all parents who are able to help.

Membership of the Youth Group is free for those who own their own boat, but there are a small number of club Toppers and Fevas for use by members for a fee of £65 per 6 week term.

Further details including dates and prices can be found on the club training brochure.

The higher skilled sailors are invited to join the QM Youth Squad. The Squad has a special programme of events and coaching and sail throughout the year.

The group is run by volunteers headed by Margaret Foreman and those wanting more information or to assist the group should contact her or the club office.

Events

The Youth Group holds an Open Youth Regatta every year. This is open to all individual youth sailors, it is also open to school teams who can compete for the Thames Water Schools Trophy. We also participate in the Surrey Schools Sailing Association Regattas which are held at various locations throughout the year.

As they improve Youth Group sailors are encouraged to attend the RYA youth classes open training events. And also to take part in the RYA Zone Championship held usually in the Autumn each year. From this they can move on to be part of the RYA Zone squads.
