Club Championships

We had a great turnout of just under 60 entrants in the annual Club Championships which took place today, September 19th. On the first really autumnal day, Race Officer Neil Beaton and his team managed to complete 4 races using 3 different course configurations over the day. Two races in the morning attracted the largest entrants with more than half the sailors returning in the afternoon for a further two races.

Jerry Wales in his RS700 was overall winner with an impressive 2 firsts and 2 seconds. Dave Freeman in the Laser came second and won the Laser Fleet prize. Tied on points with Dave but in 3rd place were Andy and Jill in their RS200. In fourth place and winners of the Youth Prize were Andy and Alex in their 420. The final 3 prizes went to Laser sailors - 5th Harry Harding, 6th Stuart Adams and 7th Andrew Rawson. First Lady was Liz Foreman in her Laser Radial in overall 9th place.

At prize giving, Jerry thanked the RO team, the safety crews and the office for producing the results. He noted in particular how many young sailors competed (5 out of the top 10 were 21 and under). A mention should also go to the galley crew who were able to feed all the sailors and get them back on the water in plenty of time for the afternoon racing
