Council

The Council of Queen Mary Sailing Club is elected on an annual basis at the AGM which is normally held in June.

The Council represents the interests of Club Members, provides direction, strategy and oversight to the Club Secretary and her staff, and acts as the Board of Directors of the Club.

Current Council Members are:

Owain Franks, Commodore

Owain sails a Yeoman and a J109 and also sits on the Council of the RYA with particular responsibility for Sport Development

Andrew Craig, Vice Commodore

Andrew both sails and windsurfs and is current Chairman of the Sailing Committee. Andrew is also a Race Officer

Sophie Jezierski, Rear Commodore Membership

Sophie has been a member at QM for 10 years or so and has served on the Council for the last four.  She is particularly interested in working with members and staff to ensure QM continues to develop as a members' club, with members' interests at heart, while offering high quality sailing to the wider local and national community.  With her husband, Marek, she sails an RS400 at QM and a Hawk 20 at Brancaster Staithe. "My two daughters refuse to get in a boat with me." Sophie is a Race Officer

Catherine Rawson, Club Secretary

The Club Secretary role is a paid position and is the General Manager of the Club. Catherine became involved with the Club through her son who is a very keen laser sailor. Catherine is also a Race Officer

Simon Winkley, Sailing Manager

Simon is a full time paid employee of the Club and has particular responsibility for the management of the Sailing School and all on the water activity at the Club. Simon is an accomplished windsurfer and kayaker and a keen sailor but two small children have recently restricted his own sailing activites

Margaret Foreman, Council Member

Margaret is the Chairman of the Youth Committee and has been sailing a range of dinghies for many years. Margaret is an Assitant  Race Officer

Paul Schroeder, Rear Commodore House

Paul has been a Club member for well over 20 years and currently sails a Tasar. Paul is a Race Officer and for a couple of years held the postion of Commercial Manager. His focus asRear Commodore is on the development of the Clubhouse and the facilities provided to Club Members visitors and course participants

Caroline Marriage, Council Member

Caroline sails a range of dinghies including a Laser, a RS400 and a RS200. Caroline is a Race Officer

Paul Robinson, Council Member

Paul is a keen windsurfer and chairman of the London Windsurfing Association

John Speller, Council Member

John is a keen windsurfer

John Hobbs Mallyon, Council Member

After spending more than thirty six years in the IT industry John decided to gain his sailing instructor qualifications  and has been involved with QMS since 1999 after being introduced to the then Chief Instructor at UKSA. He became interested in Sailability,  both sailing and helping with their full range of boats and disabilities, which is an important element of the total package that the club offers to the community.

Away from Queen Mary he has sailed both the Atlantic and the Artic with the Chay Blyth organisation.

Howard Farbrother, Council Member

Howard is a keen RS 400 sailor, member of the Sailing Committee and a Race Officer

Hamish Griffiths, Council Member

Hamish learned to sail dinghies through Queen Mary "Select Membership" and, now that he owns his own boat, realises what fantastic value the scheme is! He is a keen RS700 sailor and enjoys club racing and gets to as many class Open meetings as possible. His ambition is not to come last in the Nationals! Hamish is a Race Officer

Bob Joce, Council Member

Bob is a council member, sailing committee member and also vice captain of the QM RS400 fleet.  He enjoys racing an RS400 on Sundays and Wednesdays plus occasional open meetings.    He is also a keen on cruising along the south coast and Channel. He is an RYA Regional Race Officer and undertakes race officer duties at QM for both club races and open meetings. Bob has previously raced and sailed in various classes including 420, Laser 2 and Buzz

Joan Pride, Council Member

Joan is a Council member and enthusiastic flying fifteen sailor. As a race officer, Joan has officiated at numerous club and open meetings. She has raced consistently throughout her 20 year plus membership of QM. She has enjoyed racing in numerous boats including, Taser, Yeoman, Flying fifteen, Elite and Sigma classes in club, open and national events.
