We all stumbled out of our tents much later today and were surprised by the un-forecasted stronger winds. Wednesday in the NSSA regatta is a bit different from every other day with a selection of three races : the Mount Hayes trophy, the single hander race Trophy and the All-Comers pursuit race.
Fred / Emily and Emily and James had the daunting prospect of trying to tame the Xenons in the mount Hayes. Emily and James had a strong start but decided to sail slightly less than close hauled for the upwind leg!! Fred and Ellie fared much better and were second round the windward mark. Issues with kit in the boat meant they lost 2nd place and neither pair made it into the semi finals.
Angus, Patrick and Daniel were submitted for the single hander topper trophy. Daniel had a small protest against him and had to do turns which pushed him back to 34th. Angus sailed a strong race to post a 2nd place and Patrick as hot on his heels with a 6th.
In the all comers race, Michael had a fantastic race as he was the top topper and came 5th (sadly he didn’t manage to beat Steve Cockerill) Ed and George sailed well but were beaten by the quicker boats.
As all the events were finished by lunchtime, we had the opportunity to go kayaking. An hour and a half later we all ended up completely soaked after sinking our very unstable kayas.
Tomorrow we are back to the fleet racing with Angus and Patrick competing for top 5 positions in the regatta.
