This is an Open day for QM Members to bring family and/or friends along to try Sailing, Windsurfing, Dragonboats (new for 2011!),
There will be a programme of activities throughout the day to appeal to sailors and non-sailors of all ages: as usual you will be able to try out a variety of dinghies and keelboats to suit a range of ages and experience and there will once again be windsurfing taster sessions (for anyone aged 10 or older) with guidance from an instructor.
Club members who have been in the boat park in the last week will have seen our exciting new arrivals, the Dragon Boats. One of these will be on the water for Family Day with an opportunity for those aged 12 or older to have a go at this thrilling team activity. A spell of training will be followed by time trials with gold medals for the fastest team on the water.
We will be running the ever-popular power boat rides around the reservoir and offering kayaking taster sessions. There will also be a Scavenger Hunt for younger children with Sail for Gold wristbands for the lucky winners. The galley will be open with a lunchtime BBQ and ice cream galore available on the waterside.
Family Day Registration for the morning activities starts at 0930 with the first on water activities at 1015. Booking for afternoon slots will not be open until 1300. Activities will be allocated on a first come, first served system and are likely to be booked up quite quickly so don’t be late!
Just turn up on the day and sign in at the office for the activities you would like to take part in.
June 11th is the finals day of the Skandia Sail for Gold regatta in Weymouth where many of our Team GBR sailors will be competing including our very own Andrew Mills (Finn) and Alexandra Rickham (SKUD). We are celebrating this event by creating a "Sail for Gold" theme to the day together with many other sailing clubs and training centres around the country as we start a programme of activities looking towards the Olympics in August 2012
