Hydons take the 2011 Henri Lloyd Inland Championships title with the help of their "Taz" Kite
The rearranged Henri Lloyd Lark inlands were held at Queen Mary Sailing Club with a steady force 3 and occasional force 4 winds making for a good two day race programme.
Race 1 began with the Hydons playing the shifts going up the right hand side of the course. Hydons rounded first with Pete Gray / Rachel Rhodes second and Chris Whitehouse/ Jonno Ibbotson third. The battle for second to forth places began up the penultimate leg with Gray loosing second place to Harry Pynn/ Adam Owens. On the final run towards the finish it was Whitehouse/ Ibbotson going left that claimed second position with Gray/Rhodes narrowly behind. Pynn/Owens slipped back to fourth.
Race 2 started with Hydons leading round the first mark followed by Emma Harris / Ellie Bremmer. The Hydons managed to carve out a secure lead from Harris/Bremmer who in turn managed to hold Nick and Jo Marlow and Charlie Roome/ David Marlow who were closely pursuing them for much of the race. The final position ended with Hydons first, Harris/ Bremmer second and Marlows third.
After racing it was off to Ranelagh for the Lark social! Chris and Ellie were responsible for a really good meal and we even found the old Larkie MJ as barman (perhaps he has found his new vocation in these time of austerity).
Race 3 saw Henry Mills and Ollie Jones bolt out of the start to round first followed by the Hydons and Emma Harris/ Ellie Bremmer. At lap 2 the run saw Hydons and Pynn branch right, whilst Harris and Mills went to the left. It was Pynn and Hydon that opened up a substantial lead over Harris and Mills by the end of the leg. Pynn covered his position leaving Hydon little room to overtake. Harris took third with the Marlows again showing good weekend speed to take fourth taking Mills fairly late on.
Race 4 started with a difficult line making a number of boat having gybe around and make port dashes. Chris Whitehouse/ Jonno Ibtotson managed to make the best out of the situation and rounded first followed by Hydons with Harris/ Bremmer close behind. On the second beat Hydons and Harris managed to slip past Whitehouse. On the last leg Hydons led the fleet over the line with Pynn taking Harris
Race 5 saw Whitehouse/Ibbotson rounding first followed Charlie Roome/ David Marlow. Tim Vick/ Rebecca Marks managed to get up to third before the there was a massive wind changing the course into fetches. To Roome delight he managed to take first as Whithouse was OCS.
