Queen Mary Saturday Club

16/03/2011
New for 2011, Queen Mary Sailing Club is introducing the Queen Mary Saturday Club.  Aimed at all club members, including Select and Corporate, who would like to sail in company with others, it will meet twice a month.  Children under the age of 18 are welcome but need to be accompanied by an adult sailing with them.  The plan is to meet twice a month as follows:

In April (2nd and 16th) the aim will be to help get boats ready for the coming season.  There are always small repair jobs that need doing after the winter and meeting up with others and sharing tools and skills makes this much easier.  Anyone whose boat is ready to sail can of course head out but the priority will be fixing rather than sailing.  Meet at 10:00 and finish with lunch together.

In May (7th and 21st) the aim will be to match up those with boats needing crews and those without boats looking for a sail.  So if you are helm or crew, with or without a boat, or if you usually sail a single-hander or windsurfer and are looking for two-hander dinghy sailing experience, then this is for you.  Particular emphasis will be given to helping rig and fly spinnakers.  Meet at 10:00 and finish with lunch together.

Then from June onwards (starting from 25th since 11th is the Family Day, more details on this later) there will be a Saturday Club twice a month.  After matching up helms and crews to boats, the first hour will be sailing in company.  The second hour will include the option for those who want to take part in a couple of quick and informal fun races.  Meet at 10:00 and finish with lunch together.

So if you would like to take part in the Saturday Club as and when you are free to come along, reply to this email or let the office know and we will keep you informed.  Each date will be announced on the website so keep an eye on the news page or better still, sign up to the RSS news feed if you have not yet done so.

We look forward to seeing you out on the water with us as the warm weather arrives and brings with it the balmy breezes of summer.
