Windsurfing

Queen Mary is the largest inland place to windsurf for Londoners and those in the Home Counties.  Whatever the wind is doing in the area QM, situated high above the surrounding landscape, will deliver a wind strength 1-2 forces higher.  On a windy day it is typical to see advanced windsurfers blasting, jumping, looping and going for big moves whilst beginners and intermediates are progressing on flatter parts of the water.  With a pond-size of 700 acres, 1-mile reaches are there for the taking. Windsurf Kit can be hired from a great range of beginner to advanced kit from Starboard, Tushingham & Hifly, with 50 boards and rigs including 25 current year RIOs, GOs, Carves, Futuras and Kodes.  With RYA recognition to the level of Advanced-plus, loads of scheduled courses are available and private lessons can be arranged.  Young windsurfers are well catered-for with a range of weekend and holiday courses and an active Team 15 group meeting on Saturdays.

Smart changing and showering facilities, a recently refurbished clubhouse, free wi-fi and excellent catering keep the whole experience solid from start to finish.  Windsurfers can either become full club members - to visit the club as many times as they like within the year - or, for those who move around, day-sailing is popular at just £12 during the week and £16 at weekends & bank holidays.  QM Select, the complete membership package, includes all kit usage and all RYA courses and costs just £75 per month (or £55 per month for the under 25s)

In the main season QM is always open late at weekends and on Wednesdays with late opening on any other day when the wind is up.  Notifications are made on our website or on Twitter – follow us @QMWind . Day-sailing fees are just £6 after 5pm.

This year QM ran a club trip to Dahab and a further trip planned to Minorca Sailing in September, we ran loads of £1 taster sessions for National Windsurfing week and had the sunniest, windiest May in recent memory, with so many windsurfers sporting permanent grins and calloused hands.  A speed challenge runs through the year with the QM GPS and 34 knots was recorded last year.

With a passion for windsurfing running through the heart of QM, you can be certain of a warm, friendly welcome.
