The ILCA Fleet

If you’re looking for a fleet with great racing, great social and supporting a wide range of abilities, you’ve found it!

A message from your class captain:

Welcome to QM from the ILCA Fleet!

My name is Tony Woods and I've been Fleet Captain for a few years now. We have an amazing fleet at QM with good turn outs on Sunday mornings (all year round) and Wednesday evenings (in the summer). Competition at the front is intense, with World Champions fighting it out with ex National Champions - we even have our very own Olympian! (At the recent Masters Worlds we had 3 podium finishes and a 4th place!).

However, we also have huge range of levels, so whatever your experience there will always be someone to race against. I run regular training after racing on Sundays and before racing on Wednesdays. I've also teamed everyone up with a mentor/mentee - front of the fleet to help the middle of the fleet, middle of the fleet to help the back of the fleet, so you can have some individual coaching from someone more experienced. Occasionally I'll organise a whole day's training - usually on a Saturday in holiday times.

One of the big social highlights of the QM year is the Christmas lunch and Prize Giving, usually around the middle of December. In the winter we have at least one ILCA social evening, usually the week before the start of the Wednesday Evening Series.

Come and see us any Sunday pre or post club race - Let the office know if you would like to join our mailing list to keep up to date with news - Or follow us at QM ILCAs on Facebook

See you on the water soon.

A talk by Neil Peters (The Amazing Adventures of Stick Daring...Sailing Around Britain in a £50 boat) - Wednesday 27th March 2024 starting at 7pm

This is an inspirational true story. Neil Peters transforms himself into a real-life superhero, Stick Daring, to undertake a journey of epic proportions. He tackles challenge after challenge on a near impossible task to circumnavigate some of the most dangerous seas in the world, single-handedly - all the way around Britain.

His ancient 13 foot long sailing boat (a fifty year old Laser sailing dinghy purchased for £50) was better suited to the local pond than the treacherous waters off the coast of Britain. Battling not only the demands of staying afloat and working out where he is exactly, Stick also faces the testing issues of washing, finding food, shelter and how to get through the surf onto and off numerous beaches, in the unpredictable British weather!

The talk will comprise of two 45 minute sessions with a meal in the intermission. Please book on for the talk and meal (as required).
