Youth: Winter Laser Race Training  

Are you a member of QM, under the age of 19? Keen to improve your sailing skills over the winter? Already sailing a Laser? Then, this might just be for you ...

Awesome training sessions throughout the Winter with top racing coach, Andy Kerr. He’ll be honing your racing skills in upwind, downwind, tacks, gybes, mark rounding, starts and loads more. Let’s hope for some more windy sessions!

Please note, this is not intended as a 'learn to sail a Laser' programme, but is aimed at those wanting to develop their competitive edge by improving their skills. You may have your own Laser already, be a Youth Select Member, or need to hire one of our QM boats.

  • Race Training Series = £250

Eligibility:  

All participants need to be current QM club members.

As the coaching is aimed at refining your racing skills, you must already have basic racing experience.

The winter months can be challenging – in temperature as well as breeze. All participants need to be capable of sailing confidently in a moderate breeze (F4), and have the correct clothing to protect against the cooler temperatures.

All participants need to have access to a Laser and rig size suitable for their skill and the likely conditions (typically a 4.7 or Radial rig).

A limited number of QM club lasers are available to hire at £20/day; availability and confirmation of hire does need to be confirmed with the QM office prior to booking on (whether you are a Youth Select Member or not).

Timings & what to expect

Saturdays and / or Sundays: 0930-1630

Boats need to be partially rigged ready for the day's briefing which begins promptly at 0930

Mixture of land based theory/drills and on-water practical sessions

Squad Jackets

For those who attend, there is the possibility of ordering a Squad Jacket for an additional cost. More details will be provided on application.

 

 

Youth Group Laser 2

Winter Youth Laser Training

Learn all there is to know about laser sailing as well as practicing specific racing techniques. You should have have the Start Racing qualification. This is also most suited to children 14 years old plus but is also dependent on height and weight. Please ring QM Office if you are unsure about your suitability for this training. 4 full day sessions.

All participants are required to be current QM members. You must have access to your own boat or a select boat as a select member. However, boat hire if needed must be arranged separately by contacting the Office: £15 per session.
