The Benefits of Membership
Thank you for considering membership at Queen Mary Sailing Club, or for looking at ways to get even more from the membership you already have. Whether you're thinking about stepping onto the water for the very first time, returning to a sport you've missed, or looking to take your sailing, windsurfing or keelboating further, we're delighted you're here.
Set on one of the largest stretches of open water near London, Queen Mary is a friendly, welcoming club with something for everyone. Our members range from complete beginners to experienced racers, and from young people taking their first steps in the sport to those who have been sailing for decades. What brings them together is a shared love of being on the water and the friendships that grow from it.
In the pages that follow, you'll find everything you need to choose the right membership and make the most of it. You can read about the benefits each membership type offers, and explore the clubs, squads and race series that run throughout the year. If you have any questions, or would like help deciding which option suits you best, our team will be happy to talk it through.
We look forward to seeing you on the water.

Choosing the Right Membership
Queen Mary Sailing Club offers two main routes into membership, and the right one for you depends largely on whether you have your own equipment. If you don't own your own kit, Select Membership is the natural choice: it works on a pay-and-play basis and includes training as well as use of the club's boats and boards. If you already own your own boat or board, Standard Membership lets you enjoy the club using your own equipment.

Adult Sailing Clubs
Saturday Club
Saturday Club is a social sailing meet-up rather than competitive racing. It's simply time on the water alongside experienced sailors, with help on hand for rigging and launching, a chance to find crew, and plenty of friendly tips along the way. The club meets weekly in the summer and at least monthly in the winter. Members gather at 09:30 in the Clubhouse for a briefing, sail through the morning and can stay on for an optional lunch afterwards.
Saturday Club is open to both Standard and Select members. Each year it runs a sea-sailing trip to Weymouth as well as an overseas sailing trip. There is a WhatsApp group and a weekly email list, and you can ask the office to add you to both.
Rookie Racing
Rookie Racing is an entry-level race series for members who are new to sailing or new to racing. It offers a supportive, low-pressure format and is run from the club's race committee boat. There are Spring, Summer and Autumn series held on selected Saturdays, with competitors gathering at 13:30 for a briefing, the first start at 14:30 and racing finishing at 16:30.
The series is open to club members, and to keep it genuinely aimed at newcomers, each sailor can only win a series prize once. You only need to sign up once per series, with no weekly sign-on required unless you change boat.
Club Racing
- Sunday Club Racing is the club's main race day, taking place every Sunday morning throughout the year.
- We also have a Wednesday Evening Series offers evening racing weekly from April to September. All club members are welcome.
- The Bank Holiday Sprint Series consists of one-off sprint race days held on three bank holidays each year, in April, May and August. All club members are welcome to join in.
Class Fleets
Members who race, or would like to race, a specific class of boat can join an active class fleet for that boat. The club currently has fleets for the ILCA, the RS400, the RS200 and International Moth.
Keelboat Club
Keelboat Club offers weekly sailing on the club's fleet of RS21 keelboats, with sessions on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. It mixes racing with social sailing and keeps things low-key, as it is mainly about meeting people, building friendships and having fun. Participants should be at RYA Keelboat Level 2 standard or have equivalent experience, and skipper bookings require a QM-approved skipper.
Keelboat Club is free for members on Select Keelboating membership, while other Queen Mary members receive a 25% discount per session. The club also connects members to the Keelboat Cups and other events, such as the RS21 Winter Inland Championships.
Windsurfing Clubs
Select Windsurf Coaching - Select Windsurf Coaching provides regular group coaching sessions for windsurfers on most Saturdays through the season, with dates published on the Events and Activities page. Sessions are included once a month for Select Windsurfing members.
Youth Clubs and Squads
Members on Select Youth membership can join a range of youth clubs and squads. On the sailing side, Aqua Foxes is for Stage 2 youth sailors, Ospreys is for Stage 3 youth sailors, and the QM Race Squad provides youth race training.
For young windsurfers, the Skimmers are the entry-level youth windsurfing group, the Shredders cater for intermediate windsurfers, and the Windsurf Race Squad focuses on youth windsurf racing.
All of these groups run regularly, mostly on Saturdays, and are included free of charge within Select Youth Sailing and Windsurfing membership.
