The ILCA Fleet

If you’re looking for a fleet with great racing, great social and supporting a wide range of abilities, you’ve found it!

A message from your class captain:

Welcome to QM from the ILCA Fleet!

My name is Tony Woods and I've been Fleet Captain for a few years now. We have an amazing fleet at QM with good turn outs on Sunday mornings (all year round) and Wednesday evenings (in the summer). Competition at the front is intense, with World Champions fighting it out with ex National Champions - we even have our very own Olympian! (At the recent Masters Worlds we had 3 podium finishes and a 4th place!).

However, we also have huge range of levels, so whatever your experience there will always be someone to race against. I run regular training after racing on Sundays and before racing on Wednesdays. I've also teamed everyone up with a mentor/mentee - front of the fleet to help the middle of the fleet, middle of the fleet to help the back of the fleet, so you can have some individual coaching from someone more experienced. Occasionally I'll organise a whole day's training - usually on a Saturday in holiday times.

One of the big social highlights of the QM year is the Christmas lunch and Prize Giving, usually around the middle of December. In the winter we have at least one ILCA social evening, usually the week before the start of the Wednesday Evening Series.

Come and see us any Sunday pre or post club race - Let the office know if you would like to join our mailing list to keep up to date with news - Or follow us at QM ILCAs on Facebook

See you on the water soon.

ILCA Womens Coaching October 2025 2

ILCA WOMENS COACHING DAY

Last year Queen Mary Sailing Club partnered with ILCA UK to create this programme to get more women enjoying racing whether they are new to ILCA, new to racing or experienced club racers.

We’ve seen an enormous appetite for this programme and this will be the seventh event since we started.

Women who’ve attended these coaching sessions have described them as “inspiring” and “transformative” . At the ILCA Women’s Regatta this year, winners in both ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 classes benefitted from this programme.

Renowned coach Ellie Cumpsty will once again lead the day with ILCA Coach Jess Perkins in an all female learning environment. Ellie shares the techniques and processes to sail consistently faster, building confidence and resilience on the race course.

Queen Mary invite all participants to join Club Racing on the Sunday free of charge. This gives you the opportunity to put your new skills into action in one of the most competitive and supportive fleets in the country.

We have a limited number of boats available for hire for those sailors who don’t have their own boat. Please ensure you have a boat before booking the Coaching event. If in doubt, please speak to us first.
