VHF Marine Radio (SRC) - Short Range Certificate
The SRC Radio Course is an essential training program for all pleasure boaters, equipping you with the critical skills needed to operate a marine VHF radio with Digital Selective Calling (DSC). You will be taught through a mixture of theory and practical learning. The course ends with an assessment for the certificate, which is required for the operator’s licence.
This course ensures you can:
- Call for help in distress situations
- Communicate effectively with marinas and other vessels
- Understand essential safety equipment, including EPIRBs, PLBs, and SARTs
Legal Requirement: If you own a boat with a VHF radio on board, this qualification is legally required.
Participants must be age 16 or over. No previous experience is required to enrol on the VHF course.
You will be sent some pre-course learning that you will need to complete and asked to learn your phonetic alphabet, before the start of the course. NATO Phonetic Alphabet
Please note that the VHF Exam Fee is payable online to the RYA before the start of your course. You will receive details of how to do this in your booking confirmation. Your details will be shared with the RYA for certification purposes.
