What to bring
Dinghy sailing courses
- Clothes to wear under a wetsuit
- Closed shoes you don't mind getting wet (no flip flops/crocs please)
- Some people may wish to bring wetsuit gloves
- Suncream/sunglasses if appropriate
- Shorts to wear over your wetsuit
Windsurf courses
- Clothes to wear under a wetsuit
- Closed shoes you don't mind getting wet (no flip flops/crocs please)
- Some people may wish to bring wetsuit gloves

- Shorts to wear over your wetsuit
Keelboat/powerboat courses
- Layers to wear afloat
- Waterproof trousers/jacket if you have them. We have a small supply of salopettes (waterproof trousers) and jackets if needed
- Closed shoes you don't mind getting wet (no flip flops/crocs please)
- Suncream/sunglasses if appropriate
- A passport sized photo for Powerboat Level 2 students
Junior Courses
- You will receive a separate joining instructions email with information bespoke to QMSC’s Junior Courses
We will provide:
- Wetsuit if required
- Buoyancy Aid
- Helmet (if appropriate to course)
- All equipment to go afloat (boats, boards etc)
- RYA logbooks are provided on the first level of each discipline and are available for purchase for those attending higher level courses.
What to expect
Arrival and before your course
- Please arrive 15 minutes before the course start time to allow us to sign you in.
- On arrival, please ring the intercom at the black entrance gates, we will let you through.
- If driving, please keep right and park your car in the car park on the lower level, before heading up the steps to the clubhouse.
- Reception is on the upper level of the clubhouse. Please sign in with us there unless directed otherwise.
Your course
We have male and female changing rooms, as well as personal changing rooms for anyone that wants to use them. Please be advised these changing rooms are used by all students and members, so valuables are left in the changing rooms at your own risk. We can take of small valuables (phone/wallet/keys etc) in the office.
Please complete a Medical & Water Confidence Declaration Form prior to the start of your course. If you require any medication on site, please leave this in our office so we can access it for you if needed. If it needs to come afloat with you, we have dry storage available for this purpose.
Catering - most courses include a 1-hour lunch break as standard. We have a separate catering business onsite run by Claire Cooks Surrey, serving hot and cold food and drinks.
All RYA courses include a mixture of practical and shore-based elements. Whilst each course follows a syllabus set by the RYA, the exact course programme may vary to adapt to changing weather conditions, group ability and other variables. Courses are continuously assessed and, once each element of the syllabus has been satisfactorily demonstrated by the student, they will be issued with a certificate.
After your course
- You will be provided with a course survey so you can give us feedback on your experience and learning.
- We can offer you a membership deals or options to hire the club's kit to get you on the water and practicing your skills.
