CHIEF DINGHY INSTRUCTOR

Job Title: Chief Dinghy Instructor

Employment Type: Full-time, permanent

Salary: £28,000-£30,000 dependent on experience

QMSC is a large, active RYA Affiliated Sailing Club and RYA Recognised Training School offering club racing, open events, club activities and RYA tuition in sailing, windsurfing, winging and powerboating throughout the year. 

The role requires a flexible approach with the successful candidate working a 35 hour contract over weekends, evenings and bank holidays as required. Typical working week Wednesday–Sunday October-March, variable April-September. 

Experience & Qualifications: 

Essential: 

  • RYA Senior Instructor with valid FA certificate 
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working in a RTC as an active SI 

Desirable: 

  • Multihull/Racing/Advanced/Keelboat Instructor endorsements 
  • RYA Windsurf Instructor
  • RYA Powerboat Instructor
  • RYA Wingsurf Instructor 
  • BSUPA/PaddleUK qualifications 
  • Good racing knowledge 
  • Knowledge of junior and youth racing pathways
  • Experience in providing safety cover for racing events 
  • Gel coat/Fibre glass repair 

Duties include: 

  • Overseeing daily operations of the centre as the Duty Officer 
  • Deputising for the Principal in their absence 
  • Taking a leading role in staff development 
  • Working as part of a team to provide an enjoyable and safe environment for students and members of all ages and abilities 
  • Ensuring all teaching complies with the RYA curriculum and is delivered to the highest standards 
  • Delivery of RYA courses within the National & Youth Schemes 
  • Managing maintenance, purchasing and selling of the training fleet of approximately 100 dinghies 
  • Training Volunteers & Assistant Instructors 
  • Providing on water safety for recreational & racing activities 
  • Powerboat training for staff and volunteer skill development 
  • Assisting with recruitment 
  • Assisting with staffing  

The right candidate may take on a more prominent lead in various aspects of the centre: 

  • Acting as the main point of contact for our school activity programme

  • Overseeing our youth racing pathway 

  • Training safety helms in mark laying and safety duties

LEAD INSTRUCTOR

Job Title: Lead Instructor

Role Overview: We are seeking a motivated and individual to join our team as Lead Instructor. The successful candidate will have a drive for staff mentoring and leadership. This role requires a flexible approach, with a minimum of 35 hours per week, including weekends, evenings, and bank holidays as required. The typical working week is Wednesday to Sunday in winter, with variable days in summer.

  • Assist the Sailing Principal and Chief Instructors with the day-to-day running of the centre 

  • Lead the instructor team in setting up/packing down the centre daily 

  • Ensure all teaching complies with the RYA curriculum 

  • Deliver RYA courses within the National & Youth Schemes 

  • Assist in managing and maintaining the training fleet 

  • Act as a role model for instructors and assist in their development through mentoring and session monitoring 

  • Train volunteers and Assistant Instructors 

  • Provide on-water safety for recreational and racing activities 

  • Maintain kit and grounds 

  • Youth development 

  • Powerboat training (staff and volunteer skill development) 

 

SENIOR INSTRUCTOR

ACTIVITY INSTRUCTOR

Dinghy, Windsurf, or Powerboat

Casual (throughout the year) or seasonal (June-September 2025)

 

Queen Mary Sailing Club are looking for enthusiastic & passionate Instructors to assist in the delivery of our Training Programme for the coming season. 

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of RYA Dinghy and/or Powerboat or Start Windsurf Instructor or Wing Instructor

 

The main duty will be the delivery of the National & Youth RYA syllabus inline with your qualification and experience. Additional roles include: 

  • in-house training to deliver sit on-top kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and water/land based team building games 

  • Assisting in the safety provisions for Club & Open racing 

  • Maintenance in the training kit 

  • Launch/Recovery of club members
