Learn to Sail 
Learn to Sail: Stage 1
The Learn to Sail course at Queen Mary assumes that the student has not sailed before. All of our courses are taught by RYA qualified instructors in groups with a maximum ratio of 6 students to each instructor. Teaching takes place on the water and in the classroom and we move between the two depending on the group, the weather conditions and the requirements of the curriculum.
We focus on RYA Stage 1 and 2 of the Youth Sailing Scheme with each student attaining a level according to their own individual ability. By the end of the week, the student will have basic understanding of how a boat sails, and some experience of steering and handling a boat.
8-11 year olds
The 8-11 year old course is conducted in Hartley 10s or bugs. These courses are run over 5 full days in Easter/Summer and 3 full days at May/October half term as well as the last week of the summer.
10-15 year olds
The 10-15 year old course is conducted in Picos. These courses are run over 5 full days in Easter/Summer and 3 full days at May/October half term as well as the last week of the summer.

5 day course from 0930 to 1630. A fun and action-packed introduction to the exciting sport of dinghy sailing. This course works towards RYA Stage 1 and 2 from the dinghy sailing syllabus. It also includes some on water games to build overall water confidence and teamwork skills.
Learn to Sail (8-11yrs): Stage 1/2 (5-day course)
5 day course from 0930 to 1630. A fun and action-packed introduction to the sport of dinghy sailing. This course works towards RYA Stage 1 and 2 from the dinghy sailing scheme throughout the week. It also includes some on water activities and games to help build their water confidence throughout the week.
